Brenda Mainwaring, Vice President Public Affairs – Southern Region, Union Pacific Railroad
Brenda Mainwaring leads political and community outreach for Union Pacific Railroad in six southern states. As Vice President of Public Affairs, she has responsibility for the fastest-growing region of Union Pacific’s 23-state network.
Brenda began her career with Union Pacific as the legislative policy analyst for the railroad’s multi-state network. She soon moved into program management, overseeing UP’s historical assets, developing a trademark licensing and branded-products program, and managing UP’s involvement with the United States Olympic Committee as supplier to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
In 2007, Brenda assumed responsibility for public affairs in Iowa and UP’s home state of Nebraska. In 2013, she was selected to oversee public affairs in the South. As Vice President, she mentors and supports her team as they connect with hundreds of communities and organizations along Union Pacific’s lines.
She is an Iowa native and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Iowa.
Brenda was honored in 2016 by the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce as a “Breakthrough Woman,” which recognizes achievement in a traditionally male-dominated industry. She is a member of the Executive Women’s committee of the Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston chapter of WTS (the Women in Transportation Seminar), the Texas Freight Advisory Council and Border Trade Advisory Committee, and the Texas Business Leadership Council. She serves on the board of the North Houston Association.
