Only one county in Texas is slated to bring in more Transportation Investment Fund money than Ector County, and local officials intend to take full advantage of the program.
Commissioners have already authorized the creation of a County Energy Transportation Reinvestment Zone (CETRZ), and will have a public hearing at 10 a.m. Monday before the commissioners’ court meeting.
Ector County, if approved through the Texas Department of Transportation program, could receive $7,174,311 in a grant, with a required 20 percent match.
County Judge Susan Redford said that $7 million number is only the initial allocation, and Ector County could be eligible for more money down the road, as other counties are either not able to fulfill all the qualifications or decide not to go after the grants.
