Commuting to and from Houston may be a little easier next year with the completion of HOV lanes from the Montgomery-Harris County line to Loop 336 in Conroe.
According to information from the Texas Department of Transportation, the project will go out to bid in March 2015.
Deidrea Samuels, public information officer for TxDOT, said following the bidding process, construction will likely begin about 60 days later with a completion date set for the end of 2015.
“Right now the design for the project is nearing completion,” she said. “There will not be a physical barrier separating the main lane traffic from the HOV lanes.”
During a recent Transportation Task Force meeting, Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack asked about the effect the construction would have on traffic.
“They’ll have to maybe close down one lane,” said Richard Brown with TxDOT. “Most of that through there is three lanes of traffic so it shouldn’t affect traffic too much.”
Brown said TxDOT officials are working with engineers on the design and said he hoped most of the construction could be done at night to avoid affecting traffic flow.
“That way we would be off the (road) during the day so we can avoid rush hour traffic,” he said adding there would be some widening of the road done.
