High-speed railways could be built on the Texas Department of Transportation’s property, including a route between the Metroplex and Houston, according to a study led by Stephen Mattingly, associate professor of civil engineering.

“Certainly from a feasibility perspective, the opportunity is there to make high-speed rail using current TxDOT right-of-way without modifications, with modifications it could be even faster,” Mattingly said.
