The East End District and the Gulf Coast Rail District in collaboration with the City of Houston, the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), Union Pacific, the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), and TAG Houston successfully hosted a two-day Road and Rail Safety workshop on July 23rd and 24th, 2025. The event brought together key stakeholders and welcomed members of the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program to share their experience in implementing effective road and rail grade separations.
After 140 days of legislative activity, the 89th Texas Legislature adjourned Sine Die on June 2, 2025. This session saw the highest volume of bills filed in recent Texas legislative history. In total, the Legislature passed 1,300 bills and joint resolutions, while over 8,000 others died in committee or failed to meet procedural deadlines.
In a significant victory for transportation safety in Texas, Senate Bill 1555 (SB 1555) has been passed and signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, allocating $250 million for railroad grade separation projects. TAG Houston’s "Green Light Houston Transportation Advocacy Day" in February 2025 was instrumental in securing this critical funding through its dedicated advocacy efforts.
